Bantay Kita has recently concluded two media briefings in Quezon City, Manila last April 11 and in Davao City last April 29 inviting participants from various media outlets in the Philippines.
The Manila media briefing included presentations from BK National Coordinator Cielo Magno on the Mining Development Framework; Comms and Research Officer Marco Zaplan on the CSO Assessment of the 2nd EITI report; Anton Ragos on his research on the social development and management program of mining companies; and Madz Aloria on her research on beneficial ownership of mining companies.
Meanwhile, the Davao media briefing included presentations from BK Board Member Starjoan Villanueva on the issues of SDMP in Mindanao; EITI MSG Member Melvin Lamanilao on indigenous people’s issues related to extractives; and BK Mindanao Coordinator Beverly Besmanos on issues around subnational transparency and accountability initiatives.
The annual media briefings are part of BK’s initiative to reach out to a wider array of audience through the press. The two briefings were attended by major publications and radio stations in the country included Manila Bulletin, BusinessWorld, SunStar, and Bombo Radyo. Staff members from the Office of Senator Grace Poe also attended the Manila media briefing.
