About the Project

Project OMG (Open Mining Governance) is an initiative of Bantay Kita with the support from Hivos and Article 19. The project plans to increase access, understanding, and use of mining contracts data. Since the implementation of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) and the Open Government Partnership (OGP) a lot of contracts and data has been made available to the public. Capacity among civil society organizations and communities, however, remain a challenge in translating transparency to accountability.
Project OMG will partner with grassroots/peoples organizations, legal action groups, and academic institutions based in the provinces of Cebu and Palawan to conduct workshops and analyses of available relevant data. This is in the hope that through Project OMG communities be better informed and to use the data in the management of their natural resources
